On Friday, March 23rd, three associations representing the full array of state Medicaid, long-term services and supports, and disability programs released a joint letter urging Congress to reauthorize the Money Follows the Person (MFP) grant program. MFP is a crucial component of state strategies to shift LTSS care delivery from institutional to community-based settings. The program expired in September 2016 and states have been spending down their remaining grant funding over the ensuing months. All states are expected to end their MFP projects by the end of 2018 if Congress does not extend the program. In the letter, the National Association of Medicaid Directors, the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disability Services, and the ADvancing States request that Congress extend MFP and allocate additional funding so that states can continue this valuable and cost-effective program.
